- Description
- The performance of the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian method in simulating three-dimensional "soil-rigid structure" interaction problems involving very large deformations is investigated via comparison with plasticity solutions and published numerical and experimental results. The paper emphasises on the implementation of a simple constitutive model to capture the viscoplastic strain softening behaviour of soft clays, the verification of the method, and its application for the simulation of the vane shear test. The presented computational framework poses as an attractive alterative for the simulation of dynamic moving boundary problems including mooring of offshore structures, seabed-pipeline interaction and in situ testing of soils.
